Community Development

The Community Development Department administers and enforces zoning and land development regulations, building regulations, coastal and flood regulations, and local environmental standards. The purpose is to encourage and promote, in accordance with present and future needs, the safety, health, order, convenience, prosperity, and general welfare of the citizens of the Town, and to recognize and promote real property rights. 

The Department also provides staff support to the Town Council for land development regulation matters and other matters assigned, and to the Local Planning Agency and Historic Preservation Board.

The Comprehensive Plan and Land Development Regulations set the vision for the development pattern in the Town, including parks, streets, residential, commercial, and environmental protection.  This link will take you to information regarding the Town's Vision through the adoption of the Comprehensive Plan.

PLANNING & ZONING DIVISION:


The Planning and Zoning subdivision of the Community Development Department is responsible for review and approval of current planning projects and analyzes requests for development approval of site and construction plans, zoning amendments, and variances as per the Town's Land Development Regulations. The Town's adopted Land Development Regulations is provided via this link: Fort Myers Beach Land Development Code (LDC) and provides general information for all Planning Services. They are also responsible for the Town’s Comprehensive Plan.
