Fun Days are days that the Lee County School District has off from school! Students grades K-5th will join Bay Oaks for a day of fun!

Please pack a lunch and water bottle daily. Check the Fun Day schedule for a list of field trips and activities your child will participate in!

MERTF Advisory Board Meeting: Building Resilience Capacity to Storminess in a Coastal Setting

he Fort Myers Beach Marine & Environmental Resource Task Force Advisory Board is hosting a panel and audience conversation to explore solutions to difficult challenges. The main topic – Building Resilience Capacity to Storminess in a Coastal Setting: Lessons Learned from Hurricane Ian.

Join MERTF and their panel of experts, Dr. Michael Savarese, Dr. Jeannine Richards, Chadd Washburn, and Dr. Christopher Daly, while they explain topics that could relate specifically to you:

• Value of dunes / vegetated dunes
• Increasing dune height
• Creating space for dunes
• Use of sea walls or gray / green hybrid dunes
• New considerations for dune re-vegetation
• Building more resilient structures for surge
• Design of foundational footprints
• Passageways between foundations
• Best practices for dune field cross-over pathways
• Manage hot spots differently—Newton the “hottest.”

This event is free to the public – join in on the discussion or just listen to the knowledge being spread! The event will be held in the Town of Fort Myers Beach Council Chambers, located at 2731 Oak Street, Fort Myers Beach, FL 33931. Lee County Domestic Animal Services is celebrating “St. Pawtrick’s Day”

Lee County Domestic Animal Services invites you to celebrate “St. Pawtrick’s Day” throughout the entire month of March with reduced adoption fees. 

All dog adoptions are just $20 and cats/kittens $30 

with an approved application.

The adoption package includes spay or neuter, microchip, up-to-date vaccinations, county license and a 10-day health guarantee. That is a $600 package. A team of staff and volunteers are waiting to introduce a new four-legged family members. Stop by the adoption center Monday through Saturday between 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. 

The shelter, located at 5600 Banner Drive, Fort Myers, is open for adoptions Monday through Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Volunteers are available to help adopters select the pet that is best suited for their lifestyle and family.
