Lee County Public Safety launches “Heart Smart Lee County” campaignIt's a community-driven effort to improve cardiac arrest response and outcomes. This initiative uses Hands-Only CPR and emergency response procedures to educate the public on the importance of immediate intervention in cardiac arrest incidents. The campaign includes: - Hands-Only CPR training: A short video, printable flyers and other educational materials help to raise awareness about cardiac arrest and its warning signs.
- CPR class sign-ups: Lee County encourages residents to enroll in its partners’ CPR and Hands-Only CPR classes to educate residents and visitors on effective intervention during cardiac emergencies.
- Community AED Registry: Local businesses and organizations should register AEDs (automated external defibrillators) with the 911 dispatch system. Once an AED is registered, 911 operators can help a witness locate the AED and provide life-saving care.
- Community Partnership: Lee County works with several community partners such as Lee Health, the American Heart Association, Florida Department of Health, Florida SouthWestern State College and other local organizations and businesses.
For more information, visit www.HeartSmartLee.com for resources, a full list of partners, campaign details, and to register your AED in the registry.

Beach Work Construction on Carlos Pointe Beach on Saturday, February 24, 2024, on the south end of Estero Island at Carlos Pointe Beach.
The Beach Work construction occurring is a part of the Town's Estero Island Truck Haul Project funded by the Florida Department of Emergency Management for the Legislator Appropriated Grant. Beach works in the Carlos Point Beach area are expected to be complete by March 1, 2024. Once Carlos Pointe Beach restoration is complete, the project will continue to build berm segments from the 8000 block to the 7000 block of Estero Boulevard beachfront properties to connect the previously constructed FEMA berms, fill scours, and restore FEMA berms over washed by Hurricane Idalia. The scope and schedule of beach construction have been reviewed and permitted by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, and the Governors Emergency Order following the devastation of Hurricane Ian. The goal of the project is to restore Fort Myers Beach back to pre-hurricane conditions and to install a berm that will help protect upland properties from future storm surge impacts. Additional information about the Town’s beach recovery projects can be found on the Town’s website www.fmbgov.com/beach.
