The access road to the small lot behind Bay Oaks Recreation Center is gated and locked.

This small lot is reserved for Handicap and Service Providers only. For access to the Handicap spaces please call 239-765-4222, and have your Handicap plate or placard available and properly displayed.

There are three programs for which individuals now can apply:

  • The Housing Rehabilitation, Reconstruction and Elevation program may assist income-eligible property owners to repair, replace and/or elevate property that suffered hurricane damage.
  • The Home Purchase Assistance may assist income-eligible home buyers to purchase a qualifying primary residence outside of the flood zone in Lee County.
  • The Voluntary Residential Acquisition program may assist income-eligible homeowners of a repetitive loss property relocate outside of flood-prone areas in Lee County.

Estero Island Beach Sand Truck Haul Project commenced  on Tuesday, February 13, 2024.

The project will place 112,000 tons of beach compatible sand from Stewart Mine in Immokalee onto Fort Myers Beach to replace sand eroded away by Hurricane Ian. 

The project area on the beach extends from Margaritaville south to Big Carlos Pass. Beach construction activities will initially focus on South Estero Island onto Carlos Pointe Beach, filling in scours and raising the elevation of the beach to pre-Ian conditions. The project will continue North installing and repairing the sand berm and filling in scours. This project is funded by a Florida Department of Emergency Management grant appropriated by the Florida Legislature.

Approximately 50 to 200 trucks are expected to deliver sand on the weekdays. 

Motorists and pedestrians are advised to use caution when approaching areas of construction on Estero Boulevard and the beach.

The project is expected to take 3 months.

Electric Bikes, Scooters, Skateboards are prohibited on any public sidewalk, path, or beach

Electric bikes

Only manual bikes can share the sidewalks and beach with pedestrians.

Per Ordinance 22-04, Electric Bikes, Scooters, Skateboards are prohibited on any public sidewalk, path, or beach.

Electric bikes can ONLY be used on the road in the bike lane, not on the beach or sidewalks.
