Today, September 3, 2024, the Town of Fort Myers Beach was notified that the applications submitted to the Lee County Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) Infrastructure and Public Facilities Programs has been awarded for a total of $13,018,597.90! These programs are part of the overall U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) funding award to Lee County in the amount of $1.1 billion to support long‐term recovery efforts following Hurricane Ian.
Funding will go toward two projects: North (West) Island Water Tower and Facility and Parks and Recreation Projects. The Parks and Recreation Projects include Old San Carlos & Time Square Lighting Projects, Bay Oaks Community Pool Project, and Newton Park Beach Facility. Through these programs, the Town seeks to create improvements for the entire community in a continued effort toward recovery.
The Infrastructure and Public Facilities Programs are competitive programs available to municipalities within Lee County. The Town has already received funding through the Recovery and Resiliency Planning block, and we continue to submit applications in an effort to secure more funding. All projects under these programs must meet a HUD National Objective as outlined by Lee County in the Action Plan.
