Lee County’s Lynn Hall Memorial Park, 950 Estero Blvd., Fort Myers Beach, will close to the public Tuesday, Nov. 28, for a facility demolition project that will happen Wednesday, Nov. 29. The park will reopen immediately following the work.
The restroom building and supporting infrastructure were severely damaged by Hurricane Ian, which made landfall in Lee County on Sept. 28, 2022, and was the most destructive hurricane in Florida’s history. The storm impacted every county park site.
The Lee Board of County Commissioners has made rebuilding the Lynn Hall restroom building a priority. The issue was last discussed by the Board at the Nov. 7 regular meeting. That discussion may be viewed here.
“As we continue to recover, the county team makes every effort to assess co-operative priorities, work with Town leadership, and listen to the community. Our park system is vital to Lee County residents, as well as our valued visitors and guests. This is another positive step in the complex process as we move forward,” said Commissioner Ray Sandelli, whose District 3 includes many of the county’s beach parks that were devastated by the storm.
Beginning Tuesday, the parking lot and minimal areas of the beach around the building will be closed to the public. Demolition will begin Wednesday and take two to three days to complete, followed by the park’s reopening. Monitor www.leeparks.org/beaches for re-opening details. Updates on the design and construction of a new restroom facility will be provided at www.leeparks.org as well as other county communications platforms.
Alternate parking for beach-goers during the temporary closure is available at Bowditch Point Park, 50 Estero Blvd. Parking fees are $2 per hour.
Beach-goers are asked to keep in mind they can use Lee County Transit’s LeeTran seasonal beach tram. The free tram runs about every 35 minutes, seven days a week from Fort Myers Beach Public Library to Bowditch Point Park. Service begins at 9:30 a.m. daily at Fort Myers Beach Public Library and ends with the last tram leaving Bowditch Point Park at about 10:35 p.m. Visit www.rideleetran.com for additional details.
