Ball field reopening 8-28-23

The public is invited to the grand re-opening celebration of the Little League ball field at Bay Oaks Recreational Campus on Monday, Aug. 28, 2023, from 4 to 6:30 p.m.

The celebration will include food, music, giveaways, and a guest appearance by Jennie Finch, who led the United States softball teams in the 2004 and 2008 Summer Olympics. Other sports celebrities might also be in attendance. Gator Country 101.9 will be providing music.

A children’s clinic will be held during the celebration, and sign-ups for that clinic begin at 4 p.m. The first 75 children to sign up will receive a free t-shirt. Dedication of the fields will be at 5 p.m. and the children’s clinic will follow.

“We are grateful to so many for helping us get the little league field ready,” said Town Manager Andy Hyatt. “This celebration will be the first of many yet to come as we continue the Town’s recovery from Hurricane Ian.”

Scott’s and Major League Baseball (MLB) donated $50,000 and Seven-11 donated $25,000 toward the restoration. Jason Clark of ICS Materials donated his time and equipment to prepare the fields to be finished.
