[ARCHIVED] ALERT: Press Conference Monday, August 28, 9:30 a.m.

June 1 to November 30 Hurricane Season

A press conference to share information about preparations for Tropical Storm Idalia at the Town of Fort Myers Beach will be held on Monday, August 28, 2023, at 9:30 a.m. at the Town Hall Complex, 2545 Estero Boulevard


On Saturday, August 25, Governor Ron DeSantis signed an executive order declaring a state of emergency  regarding Tropical Storm Idalia for 33 counties, including Lee County. To read the Executive Order, click here

The press conference will take place by the front of the modular trailer in the main parking lot. 

Speaking at the conference and answering questions will be: 

  •  Fort Myers Beach Mayor Dan Allers
  • Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno
  • Fort Myers Beach Fire District Chief Scott Wirth
  • Town Manager Andy Hyatt

We encourage everyone to have multiple ways to stay informed about storms and other emergencies. Here are some ways:

  1. Sign up to receive alerts from the Lee County Emergency Operations Center
  2. Sign up for alerts from the Town of Fort Myers Beach Code Red system
  3. Sign up to receive text and/or email alerts as they are posted on the Town of Fort Myers Beach website homepage
  4. Monitor the Town's Facebook and Twitter social media outlets. The Town's experience has been that Facebook remains the most reliable in a situation where cell and internet service is spotty. Beach Talk Radio is another Facebook page that the Town will ask to spread messages. 
  5. Monitor local media and their social media outlets. Don't forget radio! WGCU 90.1 FM will be a radio station that the Town will use to share messages. You can also listen live on WGCU's website. 
  6. Monitor the social media outlets of Lee County, the Lee County Sheriff's Office, and the Fort Myers Beach Fire District
