At the Monday, May 5, 2025, Town Council meeting, Councilors approved a contract with Will McKannay to become the new Town Manager of Fort Myers Beach.

Will has more than 30 years of management and leadership experience in the U.S. Army, retiring as a Colonel. He served as a Garrison Commander (City Manager) of Fort Riley, Kansas, followed by Protection and Mission Assurance Chief (Director of Security and Emergency Management) at U.S. Northern Command, Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Will has a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice with a Minor in Political Science from Northern Arizona University. From the Army War College, he has a Master of Strategic Studies as well as a Master of Public Policy Management from Georgetown University.

Will was sworn in as Town Manager at the Monday, May 19, 2025, Town Council Meeting. 


The Town Manager, as appointed by the Town Council, is responsible for:
  • The implementation and enforcement of policies and ordinances adopted by the Town Council
  • Developing a Town government that represents the needs of the community and provides quality, cost-effective services to the public
  • Acting as a conduit for individuals and groups to access the Town Council
  • Recruitment and selection of Town employees
  • Development of personnel policies
  • The Town's compensation plan
Working closely with Department Directors, the Town Manager:
  • Coordinates the provision of services to residents
  • Works to improve intergovernmental relationships
  • Asserts a leadership role in the community
