FEMA announces the Town of Fort Myers Beach will be removed from probation under the NFIP!

April 28, 2025, FEMA announced the Town of Fort Myers Beach has met the requirements to be removed from probation under the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), effective November 18, 2025!

The Town accomplished the five action items set forth by FEMA, which will remove us from probation and will end the $50 surcharge that was added to all NFIP policies within the Town limits on November 18, 2024.

Thank you to Congressman Byron Donalds, Senator Rick Scott, Senator Ashley Moody, and our partners at FEMA for working with the Town to make this possible! We look forward to continuing our working relationship to further improve our floodplain management practices.

Utilities

A message from Lee County Utilities

Lee County Utilities will be temporarily converting its disinfectant process from chloramines to free chlorine residual from May 1 through May 21.

This is a routine measure that is common for water utilities using chloramines as its primary disinfectant.

Anyone who uses a kidney dialysis machine at home should contact his or her equipment supplier so the proper filtering equipment may be installed. Tropical fish or aquatic animal owners should contact a local tropical fish store for appropriate pretreatment of water before adding water to tanks.

Customers may notice a temporary change in the taste, odor, and color of the water, which is not harmful. Again, this is a routine measure to ensure our customers of clean, safe potable water.

Sea Turtle Season began on May 1st!

Get your amber bulbs and black out curtains ready for Sea Turtle Nesting Season. Not all yellow and red bulbs are made equal - be sure to look for manufacturer specs that call out 560 nanometers (nm) or greater on the box.  Black out curtains are best for windows to shield interior lighting, and if you’re under construction, please remind your contractor to turn off the lights at night and put up temporary curtains to block interior lights.
